    Do I have to be a good swimmer?
    You need to be comfortable in the water and be able to swim 200 yards without stopping. You also need to able to float or tread water for 10 minutes.

    Isn't it expensive?
    Expense, of course, is relative. Compared to a meal out, it's expensive. Compared to other similar activities like skiing, or even golfing, it is on par with them (sorry).

    Once you have your equipment, beach diving is extremely inexpensive and boat charters can run from very inexpensive on up. Travel is the other factor -- where you choose to go diving is the most important factor in how much you'll spend. The important thing to remember is that there are divers from every part of the budget spectrum.
